The Victorians were the one of the first to use Torquay as a holiday resort. Then it was a fashionable destination for the English aristocracy. Today Torquay is a very popular holiday resort on the English Riviera with its' beautiful gardens, elegant Victorian terraces and clean white villas all providing a beautiful backdrop to the popular modern facilities and busy shopping centre.

Torquay's waterfront is a hive of activity with its' palm-lines promenade, gardens, harbour and international marina.

Many parts of Torquay were villages in their own right. Cockington has thatched cottages, acres of gardens and woodlands, a Norman church and organic garden with products on sale to the public. Babbacombe has cliff top gardens with spectacular views across Lyme Bay. Saint Marychurch has a charming collection of select shops. Maidencombe is a small village with magnificent coastal walks a sheltered beach and panoramic views and protected coastal woodlands.
