Croyde, Devon

Croyde is situated on the rugged North Devon Coast within easy reach of the popular resorts of Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and the village of Braunton. The village at Croyde comprises of thatched cottages and has many places to eat, purchase gifts and hire beach equipment.

Croyde has been inhabited since the stone age, and even today flint tools and arrow heads can be found in nearby fields. The oldest building in the village is St Helens Chapel which dates back to the 12th century.

Croyde is famous for surfing with its ideal surf conditions at all times of the year. Surf boards can be hired from a number of places throughout the village. There is a small stream that runs through the village down to the sandy beach.

Croyde beach is relatively small when compared against other North Devon beaches such as Woolacombe but this is not a deterrent. The beach at Croyde is life guard patrolled but does have a reputation for strong undercurrents so care must be taken.

Other activities in Croyde include The Cascades Tropical Adventure Pool, an ideal place to visit for a family day out with an adventure pool, jacuzzis, waterfalls and a 230ft flume.

With its outstanding scenery and many walks, Croyde Bay has something to offer everyone.



How to get to Croyde by Car, Coach and Train

If you are travelling by car, take the M5 motorway to Junction 27 and then follow the A361 through Barnstaple to Braunton. From Braunton take the B3231 to Croyde. You can plan your journey using the RAC route planner in advance - use the RAC link below to plan your journey now.

Alternatively use may wish to take the train. The nearest train station to Croyde is Barnstaple. Barnstaple is connected to the main rail network by changing trains at Exeter St. Davids. Great Western Trains operate a fast and frequent service from London Paddington to Exeter St Davids. Virgin Trains offer fast and frequent services from all major UK destinations to Exeter St Davids. Both companies operate services right throughout the year.

You may wish to travel to Croyde by coach. A number of independent operators operate services to Croyde throughout the summer season. National Express operate direct coach services to nearby Ilfracombe and Barnstaple throughout the year.
