Teignmouth was raided by the French Navy in 1690 and became a fashionable resort in the late 18th Century. Children can play on the long sandy beach that is lifeguard patrolled during the summer season. Teignmouth has a clean beach that is washed twice daily by the tide. There is also a River Beach - locally known as the back beach. There is a 700ft long Victorian Pier at Teignmouth situated in the middle of a superb level sea front. The Pier houses gambling machines, pinball machines, bingo and the latest video games. Children will enjoy the numerous rides and attractions on the fun deck of the Pier. It has a kiddie roller coaster, pirate ship and fun house all making for hours of fun. During the summer season see stilt walkers, jugglers, clowns and jazz bands. The Pier also has a seated coffee and ice cream shop as well as a beach and souvenir shop.

Further along the sea front you will find The Jolly Roger Fun Corner with disco boats aqua-bugs, mini motor bikes and other children's rides. Also on the sea front is Crazy Golf and Tennis Courts. In contrast, The Den, is a six acre public garden with beautiful floral displays. On certain weekends such as Bank Holidays, The Den plays host to fun fairs and marching jazz bands.

From Teignmouth you can take a short ferry boat ride across the Teign estuary to the quaint little village of Shaldon. You can also take advantage of one of the many boat trips across the bay and fishing expeditions.

Teignmouth is a working port exporting granite, timber and clay.

If you enjoy walking, you can take a walk along the sea wall taking in views of Lyme Bay and observing the wildlife living on the cliffs.

Teignmouth has its own train station from where you can travel to other destinations in South Devon and further afield. Why not take a day trip to the local towns or Dawlish, Dawlish Warren, Torquay and Paignton. Or go shopping at the nearby shopping towns of Newton Abbot, Exeter or Plymouth.

Stagecoach Devon operate frequent bus services to from Teignmouth to Dawlish, Dawlish Warren, Newton Abbot, Exeter, and Torquay. Day time frequency is every 15 minutes.
