Ilfracombe is situated in the Wilder Valley in North Devon where Exmoor and the Bristol Channel meet the Atlantic Ocean.

Ilfracombe became a popular resort during the Victorian times and a number of Victorian and Edwarding buildings are still retained in the town today. Torrs Park in particular has some outstanding buildings that take you back to these past times. Examples of fine Georgian terraces can be found in the town.

During the summer Ilfracombe shoots into bloom with hanging baskets, tubs and flower beds. The seafront floral displays stretch from Runnymede Gardens to beyond the harbour. Ilfracombe has been a winner of the Britain in Bloom competition on a number of occassions.

Around the Quay area you will find a number of pubs that come alive in the evening and the town is bursting with energy.

In and around Ilfracombe there are dozens of gold sandy beaches and coves. In Ilfracombe itself is Wildersmouth Beach and the unique Tunnels beach with its safe tidal bathing pool. The coastal path towards Lee Bay gives access to smaller and quiter bays such as Rockham and Combesgate. The coastal path includes several steep inclines and declines where the wooded valleys meet the sea.
