Falmouth, warmed by the Gulf stream, lies on the south west coast of Cornwall. Falmouth boasts the worlds third largest natural harbour. Falmouth is famous for its' sandy beaches and castle. Built by Henry VIII, Pendennis Castle on Falmouth's headland and its' sister castle across the water at St Mawes played a prime role in defending the coast line during the first and second world wars. Today, the castle is host to battle re-enactments, jousting tournaments and concerts and is one of Falmouth's principal attractions.

Falmouth was once home to the Packet Ship service set which sailed to the Mediterranean and the Americas from 1688 to 1852 carrying mail and goods. These world wide links across the seas resulted in the development of large private gardens where exotic plants thrived in the regions sub-tropical climate.
