Braunton, Devon

Braunton is situated on the North Devon Coast within easy reach of the popular resorts of Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and the small village of Croyde. Braunton is one of the biggest villages in England and has an old ruined chapel overlooking the narrow streets of the original village.

To the East of the village is a large sand dune system which is famous for its plant and animal life. At the Northern edge of the sand dune system is Saunton sands, the start of a three mile stretch of fine golden sands towards Appleford and Bideford Bar.

Braunton, along with other popular North Devon beaches such as Croyde Bay and Woolacombe Bay, is very popular with surfers. Bathing is safest at the northern end of the beach.

Braunton has its own museum that was specially converted from a former bakehouse and two cottages. The museum reflects the early beginnings of the town through to its agricultural and later maritime heritage.
